No trip to San Antonio would be complete without a stop at the world renowned
Alamo.
This 18th Century mission was the site of the famous battle for Texas Independence
from the Mexican armies lead by the Mexican General Santa Anna. A battle
where 189 defenders fought bravely against overwhelming odds and made famous
many of the characters inside the mission including Jim Bowie and Davy Crocket.
After the battle was over, Texans would raise a new army against Santa Anna
and used the rally cry “Remember the Alamo” to motivate this
new army. Eventually Texas did win its independent from Mexico and of course
shortly thereafter became part of the United States of America.
This San Antonio historic site is one of the most visited and photographed
sites in all of the Southwest. The Chapel and the Long Barracks are all that
remain of the original structure. At this location you can visit the Long
Barracks Museum and Library which houses many relics and a gift shop. So
next time you visit San Antonio, “Remember the Alamo”
